Personality:

Calor IS the forest. A part of the trees, shrubs and even the tiny toadstools he loves so much, he cherishes it all and lives in total harmony with them. Often seen with woodland critters all about him, even hanging about in his antlers, it only makes him all the more easily mistaken for a sapling himself. Squirrels love to play tag across his body, which tickles mightily and usually ends with him rolling on the ground laughing, all part of the good natured fun.

He's not fond of Woodsman, but for a peculiar reason. When he hears an odd knocking in the trees and goes to investigate, he expects to find a woodpecker having difficulties. Rather, he steps out of the brush to see a person with an axe, playing at being a woodpecker. This generally ends in a lot of shocked screams from both sides (first the person "ahhh!!!", then Calor because of the screaming "ooooh!", then more from the person "AAAAHH!!" and so on) and a dropped axe which is followed by running. When Calor recovers from these startling events, recovers his breath and smooths his leaves back into place, he likes to look through the leavings of these strange would-be woodpeckers, and sometimes carries small bits of them around for a time. Mostly, he'll just leave them be, and hope the creature comes back for them. Poor frightened little things....

When not scaring the daylights out of the local populace in such fashion, Calor tends to the health and beauty of the forest where he resides. Locals can always tell when they have entered his territory by the sudden shift in the look of things. One moment everything appears wild and untamed, unsuitable to move through if you like your clothing; and the next you almost seem to step foot into a fairy tale woodland of beauty and harmony. Vines no longer reach for you and brambles don't tear your clothes, instead they lay comfortably in lovely displays of function and form. Then animals are friendlier, too. Squirrels, normally utterly shy of people, are accustomed to Calor and will come right up to peer at the similar creatures with interest, often leaping from branches to hats and back again without warning. Most of course assume that they have tread into the realm of a fairy and quickly leave for the sake of safety and politeness, but some few like to wander about this 'garden', and will never know that they are being closely watched the whole time by Calor, just a few trees over.

In the rare cases of 'visitors' who cause harm and destruction to his home, Calor uses his knowledge and intimacy with the woods to steer them into less hospitable areas. Large beasts to call out and make them to turn, bramble blockades quickly formed to block routes, and hails of pinecones (among other things) from squirrels and birds when they try to push through anyway. Calor will carefully manipulate their travels until they reach the territory of the females of his kind, where he will then turn them loose from his hold, to wander away and face their fate of eventual escape from the woods they have harmed, or die at the hands of a hungry female to be food for their needs. To ensure this Calor will blockade the return route behind him, preventing them from fleeing into his home again. This has, of course, only led to more tales of troublesome forest fairies by those who have escaped.
